First Birthday In Heaven

But for the drone of the tv and the old dog coughing
her last breaths of life
The house is silent, the air stagnant.
Outside the sun shines from the windows
Inside there is only darkness
The sadness quiets even the beating of my heart.
Today I must celebrate your first birthday in heaven,
Post those happy posts on Facebook to celebrate your life
All the smiling faces
Are too much for this old woman sitting alone
I shut the page and begin to weep
There are no memories here only reality
of what was once a home
The fire you kept tended dead in the hearth
Your chair empty
The tv drones on ..a memorial to a lost husband
Looking back is something to look forward to she is saying
I shut it off... .
now I hear the clock
The old dog silently sleeping.
I can hear the buzzing of a fly nearby.
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock...
How many times I wonder till the beating of my heart stops..
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock,
Stop
I go to the forum a warm and happy place
Even it is silent there right now
no new posts, arguments or trolls...
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock
2 hours 18 minutes to put on a happy face
For the youngest will be home
I need to clean and bake a cake yet
Still listening to the silence
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock
I swish the fly away from my coffee
and begin to drink it.
Time for the mask to come on
No more time for sadness.
Time to be mom..
